Destination Management Plan Progress Report
Travel to a Thriving Future is the Queenstown Lakes' Destination Management Plan (DMP), setting out how tourism in the district can give back more than it takes. The plan aims to build a regenerative visitor economy that goes beyond typical sustainability projects that minimise environmental harm. Instead, it contributes holistic value that benefits communities, the environment, and the economy.
Endorsed in February 2023, the plan is delivered in partnership by Destination Queenstown, Lake Wānaka Tourism and Queenstown Lakes District Council, alongside Kāi Tahu, the Department of Conservation and other key partners.
How to read this report
This progress report covers the 2025-2026 financial year and reports on all 23 projects across the DMP's three strategic pillars. Activity correlates directly to the 114 thoughtstarters as outlined in the DMP.
